{"id":18063,"date":"2016-01-07T21:12:55","date_gmt":"2016-01-07T21:12:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/defensenews\/uncategorized\/2016\/01\/07\/renault-awarded-french-contract-for-special-forces-vehicles\/"},"modified":"2026-08-07T21:44:12","modified_gmt":"2026-08-07T21:44:12","slug":"renault-awarded-french-contract-for-special-forces-vehicles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/defensenews\/home\/2016\/01\/07\/renault-awarded-french-contract-for-special-forces-vehicles\/","title":{"rendered":"Renault Awarded French Contract for Special Forces Vehicles"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>PARIS \u2014\u00a0 \u00a0<span class=\"rte rte-comment\">Paris \u2013 <\/span>The Direction G\u00e9n\u00e9rale de l\u2019Armament awarded a contract to Renault Trucks Defense on\u00a0Dec. 30\u00a0for the design and construction of a total 443 vehicles for the special forces, composed of 241 light and 202 heavy vehicles, the procurement office said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A DGA spokesman declined to give the value of the contract.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A first batch of 25 heavy vehicles will be delivered in a first standard, to meet the most urgent requirements, while the first of the light vehicles will be dispatched in 2018, the DGA said in a Jan. 7 statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The vehicles are needed to replace a current fleet that\u00a0<span class=\"rte rte-comment\">which <\/span>has seen extensive use,\u00a0<span class=\"rte rte-comment\">and <\/span>requiring early replacement. The new light vehicle will replace the Panhard Vehicule de Patrouille Sp\u00e9ciale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;This program responds to the most demanding operational requirements for missions of intelligence gathering, combat, long-range operation in hostile zones in the greatest possible stealth and seeking to improve interoperability and the performance of vehicles operated by the Army, Air and Navy elements of the special forces,&#8221;\u00a0the DGA said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Panhard, a unit of RTD, will handle design and production of the light vehicle, while Essone S\u00e9curit\u00e9 will design and produce common equipment for both light and heavy vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">RTD, part of the Volvo group, had faced competition from Nexter and Lohr, defense blog Le Mamouth reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Procurement chief Laurent Collet-Billon told journalists on Feb. 9, 2015,\u00a0<span class=\"rte rte-comment\">last year <\/span>a tender would be held because\u00a0<span class=\"rte rte-comment\">as <\/span>no off-the-shelf vehicle met the specifications, which called for two years of development. The development would adapt a vehicle, which would then undergo a certification to show the weapons and radio were fit for use, he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The French
