At the 2014 trial, the pair had\u00a0<span class=\"rte rte-comment\">instead <\/span>only received two\u00a0year sentences for the lesser charge of false book<span class=\"rte rte-comment\"><\/span>keeping.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The charges related to a \u20ac560 million <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">euro <\/span>deal to sell 12 AW101\u00a0helicopters to India in 2010.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Following Orsi&#8217;s arrest in 2013 on suspicion of paying bribes to the former Indian air force chief to buy the AW101, India cancelled the contract and stopped Finmeccanica from pitching for new programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Under Italian law, defendants can appeal guilty verdicts, but prosecutors can also appeal against acquittals. At the appeal, Orsi&#8217;s lawyers pushed to overturn the false book<span class=\"rte rte-comment\"><\/span>keeping sentence handed down at the first trial, while prosecutors argued for the reinstatement of the corruption charges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a statement, lawyers representing Orsi called the appeal verdict &#8220;surprising,<span class=\"rte rte-comment\">suprising<\/span>&#8221; and suggested it was erroneously based on statements made by Guido Hashke, a consultant involved in the alleged corruption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Italian law also foresees a third law of justice \u2014 the court of cassation, or supreme court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking after the latest verdict, a spokesman for one of Orsi&#8217;s lawyers said
