Jack Reed, D-R.I., announced the timeline together on Tuesday <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The timing is a bid to establish a $750 billion top line for the defense policy bill ahead of the Democratic-led House Armed Services Committee, which is likely to hold its markup using a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/congress\/2019\/04\/02\/house-dems-offer-733b-for-defense-in-2020-in-two-year-budget-caps-deal\/\" target=_blank>$733 billion top line backed by lead House Democrats<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYou can\u2019t just wait around. We have to get our authorization and appropriations done,\u201d Inhofe told reporters last week, quipping: \u201cIf we have to drag the House behind us, we will make every effort to do that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The HASC\u2019s markup is expected in early June, the top Republican in the House, Rep. Mac Thornberry, D-Texas, told reporters Tuesday. Only the SASC Personnel Subcommittee will be open.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYou\u2019re taking about things, defending the nation, where we are competing with China and Russia, and we don\u2019t want them to know what you\u2019re doing,\u201d Inhofe said last week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The NDAA will be considered in subcommittee on the following dates:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>May 20: Readiness, Airland, and Strategic Forces subcommittees.<\/li><li>May 21 Cybersecurity, Seapower, Personnel, and Emerging Threats and Capabilities subcommittees.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The full committee is due to consider the NDAA on May 22, as well as May 23 if
