Such notifications are not guarantees of final sale; should the request be approved by Congress, quantities and dollar figures can change during negotiations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This request represents the 10th Foreign Military Sales request from the UAE since the start of fiscal 2017, for a total approximate worth of $10.5 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is also the first Foreign Military Financing request cleared by the DSCA since the Trump administration <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/congress\/2019\/05\/24\/trump-pushes-through-bomb-sales-over-congress-objections-dems-warn-of-repercussions-for-industry\/\" target=_blank>declared a regional emergency<\/a> in order to get several weapons packages pushed through Congress despite opposition on Capitol Hill, leading to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/congress\/2019\/07\/10\/follow-the-damn-law-bipartisan-criticism-flies-over-trumps-emergency-arm-sales\/\" target=_blank>bipartisan criticism of the move<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The UAE bought its first lot of CH-47Fs \u2014 16 aircraft for estimated total of $2 billion \u2014 in 2009.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Boeing said earlier this year that it was relying on foreign military sales, including \u201c30 helicopters or less\u201d to the UAE, to shore up a delta between the production of its Block I version of the F-model and its Block II version.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/defensenews\/land\/2019\/06\/25\/will-foreign-sales-save-the-chinook-production-line\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/ChinookDustLanding.jpg.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">Will foreign sales save the Chinook production line?<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">The Army hopes to mint more deals for the Chinook abroad to make up for cuts of the latest variant&#039;s planned production total. But will it be enough?<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The company needs FMS deals like the one with the UAE even more now that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/smr\/federal-budget\/2019\/03\/14\/army-plans-to-stop-building-newest-ch-47-variant-in-fy20-except-for-special-ops\/\" target=\"_blank\">U.S. Army is planning not to buy the Block II version for the active force<\/a>. The service still plans to produce Block II aircraft for Army special operators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Top Army officials have said they are working hard to mint FMS deals to help make up for the huge production gap left open <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/digital-show-dailies\/aaaa\/2019\/04\/17\/what-will-be-the-fate-of-the-chinook-even-the-army-isnt-sure\/\" target=_blank>following the service\u2019s decision<\/a> to not buy Block II F-models for the active force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But Boeing told Defense News that it expected FMS deals would not lessen the blow and, so far, none of the anticipated sales are for Block II versions.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/defensenews\/digital-show-dailies\/ausa-digital-show-dailies\/2018\/10\/08\/boeing-is-readying-chinooks-for-the-future-fight-but-is-the-effort-in-jeopardy\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"182\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/635679804842266398-mount-rainier-rescue-cham-2-jpg.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">Boeing is readying Chinooks for the future fight, but is the effort in jeopardy?<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">Boeing is running analysis to see what the impact might be should the Army slow the procurement of the upgraded F-model helicopters.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The UAE\u2019s order, according to Boeing, was not for Block II, and the only other possible F-model sale to the United Kingdom is for extended range versions of the Block I version.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is unclear which countries might actually be interested in Block II aircraft, but the service won\u2019t be ready to offer those to foreign customers until after the variant\u2019s qualification testing is completed in 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The proposed sale \u201cwill expand the UAE\u2019s helicopter fleet,\u201d per the DSCA announcement. \u201cFurther, it will enhance the UAE\u2019s operational and defensive capabilities to better defend U.S. and UAE national security interests in the region, and increase the UAE\u2019s contributions to any future joint or coalition efforts requiring helicopter support.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition to the helicopters themselves, the proposed package would include 26 T55-GA-714A engines; 24 embedded global positioning systems with inertial navigation system; 20 M134D-H mini-guns; and 20 M240H machine guns, as well as various transmitters and other equipment. Up to 10 U.S. government or contractor representatives will be needed in the UAE to help prepare the Chinooks for operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Primary work will be done at Boeing\u2019s Ridley Park, Pennsylvania, facility, Honeywell Engine\u2019s Phoenix, Arizona, location, and Science and Engineering Services in Huntsville,
