But adversaries are finding other ways to attack the platform \u2014 with cyber.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The annual report from the Director of Operational Test and Evaluation for the Defense Department provides a detailed overview of Army, Navy and Air Force programs. The Army section contains two dozen systems with reviews and recommendations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two of those reports look at the Stryker-Dragoon and the Stryker CROWS-J, or Common Remotely Operated Weapons Station \u2013 Javelin and notes that both have \u201ccybersecurity vulnerabilities that can be exploited.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The vulnerabilities highlighted in the report were not simply revealed in testing.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/armytimes\/news\/your-army\/2018\/08\/31\/no-more-exposure-this-forward-unit-is-getting-an-upgrade-that-lets-strykers-fire-missiles-remotely\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"198\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/CROWS-J-Stryker1.jpg.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">No more exposure: This forward unit is getting an upgrade that lets Strykers fire missiles remotely<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">The system lets shooters fire the missile from the confines of the vehicle instead of sending dismounted troops outside to shoot down threats.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAdversaries demonstrated the ability to degrade select capabilities of the (Stryker-Dragoon) when operating in a contested cyber environment,\u201d according to the report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The same was noted for the CROWS-J model.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While little detail is shared as to what vulnerabilities were exposed, which adversary exposed them or when this occurred, the shared language for the two systems and another comment point to something common in the hardware, not the new weaponry, on the Stryker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIn most cases, the exploited vulnerabilities pre-date the integration of the lethality upgrades,\u201d according to the report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But the problem isn\u2019t isolated to a handful of vehicles. It\u2019s across what will be basically the fighting edge of the lead mechanized ground reconnaissance anti-armor unit that the Army has in Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Dragoon variant is the upgunned 30mm-cannon Stryker that emerged from Army decisions back in 2015 to give the vehicles more firepower for a perceived overmatch that soldiers in Europe were facing against Russian vehicles and weaponry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once all upgrades are complete, the 81 Stryker-Dragoons will make up half of the rifle and scout platoon fleets in the 2nd Cavalry Regiment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1500\" height=\"1000\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/2623319.jpg.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-37406\" srcset=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/2623319.jpg.jpg 1500w, https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/2623319.jpg.jpg?resize=300,200 300w, https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/2623319.jpg.jpg?resize=768,512 768w, https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/2623319.jpg.jpg?resize=1024,683 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1500px) 100vw, 1500px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Soldiers assigned to F Troop, 2nd Squadron, 2nd Cavalry Regiment move into position in Stryker Armored Fighting Vehicles as they conduct a demonstration for Latvian military families during the Latvian Battalion anniversary, May 28, 2017, at Adazi Military Base, Latvia.
