Our business models are also similar: We each provide sensors, cameras and sensor systems to our customers,\u201d Teledyne Executive Chairman Robert Mehrabian said in a statement Monday. \u201cHowever, our technologies and products are uniquely complementary with minimal overlap, having imaging sensors based on different semiconductor technologies for different wavelengths.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The deal is expected to close in the middle of this year, pending regulatory approvals.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/c4isrnet\/unmanned\/2020\/07\/01\/marine-corps-buys-dozens-of-skyraider-drones\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"157\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/skyraider.jpg.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">Marine Corps buys dozens of SkyRaider drones<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">FLIR Systems says the R80D SkyRaider is the company\u2019s most advanced military small unmanned aerial system<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cowen analyst Roman Schweizer said in a note to investors that it\u2019s unclear how regulators under the incoming Biden administration will regard the pending merger, but he speculated DoD could favor the creation of a \u201chealthy midtier competitor\u201d for larger defense firms. Businesswise, the combined company provides better positioning in growing areas of the Pentagon\u2019s budget: advanced sensors and unmanned systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhile DoD\u2019s budget may be flat to even down over the next five years, we think these two important segments will be net winners and could see growth,\u201d Schweizer said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Teledyne\u2019s strong products in space-based infrared sensors and undersea unmanned vehicles should mesh well, Schweizer said, with FLIR\u2019s airborne and ground infrared sensors and its unmanned platforms, through FLIR\u2019s acquisitions of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/unmanned\/2019\/02\/15\/flir-set-to-add-endeavor-robotics-to-its-unmanned-future\/\" target=_blank>Endeavor<\/a> and Aeryon in 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The combined company, he said, could be a prime or key supplier for DoD plans to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/land\/2020\/12\/09\/us-army-launches-design-phase-for-bradley-replacement\/\" target=_blank>optionally man<\/a> traditionally manned platforms using a combination of sensors and artificial intelligence, for nascent satellites to detect and track hypersonic missiles, and for the Army and Navy\u2019s pushes into unmanned systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Army\u2019s heavy common ground robot has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/land\/2020\/11\/16\/us-armys-heavy-ground-robot-reaches-full-rate-production\/\" target=_blank>reached full-rate production in November<\/a>, less than a year after FLIR Systems won the contract to deliver the system. The Kobra robot, to serve as the Army\u2019s Common Robotic System-Heavy system in a contract worth up to $109 million, is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/air\/2020\/12\/03\/the-air-force-wants-to-buy-a-big-robot-to-help-with-bomb-disposal\/\" target=_blank>contender for a similar Air Force
