Los Angeles AFB, a major space acquisition installation, will be redesignated as a Space Force base in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">STARCOM is one of three Space Force field commands and handles professional development, education and training for its guardians, as well as coming up with space warfighting doctrine, tactics, techniques and procedures. It also handles operational test and evaluation of space assets developed and purchased by Space Systems Command, another field organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/c4isrnet\/space\/2021\/08\/20\/space-force-standing-up-starcom-to-train-guardians\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/download.png.png?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">Space Force standing up STARCOM to train guardians<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">The Space Training and Readiness Command will be the third and final field command established under the U.S. Space Force.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The organization stood up in August 2021 and is temporarily located at Peterson SFB in Colorado Springs until a final basing decision is made.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Officials will survey the sites in late April or early May to weigh the pros and cons of each location, though the Department of the Air Force did not say how long the review is expected to take.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe assessment will be based on factors related to mission, infrastructure capacity, community support, environmental considerations and cost,\u201d the department said in a press release.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/airforcetimes\/news\/your-air-force\/2021\/08\/05\/space-force-and-usafa-adapting-naval-academys-leatherneck-program-for-future-guardians\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/EWTUMXDU8AMFgur.jpg.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">Space Force and USAFA adapting Naval Academy\u2019s \u2018Leatherneck\u2019 program for future guardians<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">The fledgling service is creating a program to determine which candidates are the best fit to join the Space Force after graduating from the U.S. Air Force Academy<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Three installations \u2014 Patrick SFB, Schriever SFB, and New Mexico\u2019s Kirtland AFB \u2014 are under consideration to host STARCOM deltas, which function like Air Force wings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kirtland and Schriever are competing to host Deltas 11 and 12, which respectively handle training range operations as well as test and evaluation work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThese bases offer existing range infrastructure that supports test, training, and exercise activities within close distance to range and aggressor stakeholders,\u201d the Department of the Air Force said. Kirtland and Schriever both sit near space industry hubs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Patrick is the lone candidate for Delta 10, which focuses on space doctrine and wargaming. Delta 1, another subordinate to STARCOM, already holds initial skills, follow-on and advanced training at Vandenberg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSite surveys at the candidate locations for Deltas 10, 11 and 12 will wrap up in 2022 to determine which is best suited to host each delta\u2019s mission,\u201d judging installations on the same criteria as those being considered for STARCOM headquarters, the release said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Space Force plans to employ 8,400 military personnel by the end of September and grow to 8,600 in the following year. Command boss Gen.
