{"id":23653,"date":"2015-10-19T17:32:00","date_gmt":"2015-10-19T17:32:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/defensenews\/uncategorized\/2015\/10\/19\/seoul-arms-exhibition-opens\/"},"modified":"2026-08-07T22:01:19","modified_gmt":"2026-08-07T22:01:19","slug":"seoul-arms-exhibition-opens","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/defensenews\/land\/2015\/10\/19\/seoul-arms-exhibition-opens\/","title":{"rendered":"Seoul Arms Exhibition Opens"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>SEOUL\u00a0\u2014 The \u00a0biennial Seoul International Aerospace and Defense Exhibition (ADEX), set to run\u00a0Tuesday through Sunday, will feature\u00a0<span class=\"rte rte-comment\">defense exhibition is to open Oct. 20 here with <\/span>about 380 aerospace and defense firms worldwide. <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">participating.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Seoul International Aerospace and Defense Exhibition (ADEX) 2015 is to be held from Oct. 20-25 at an air force base in Seongnam, just south of Seoul.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Held at an Air Force base in Seongnam, just south of Seoul,\u00a0<span class=\"rte rte-comment\">On the media day Oct. 19, <\/span>an F-22 Raptor flew aerial demonstrations to showcase its high-end performances on Monday&#8217;s media day. Two F-22 aircraft arrived earlier at Osan Air Base of the Seventh Air Force headquarters in Pyeongtaek to take part in the Seoul ADEX 2015. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Aerial demonstrations will be performed by the F-22 Demonstration Team from Langley Air Force Base, Virginia, and the C-17 Demonstration Team from Hickam AFB, Hawaii,&#8221; the Seventh Air Force said in a news release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>About 150 US\u00a0military service members from the <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">U.S. <\/span>Air Force and Army will participate,\u00a0<span class=\"rte rte-comment\">in the ADEX <\/span>while\u00a0other US\u00a0aircraft, such as the KC-135 aerial tanker, F-16 combat jet\u00a0and E-3 early warning and control aircraft, will <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">also <\/span>be brought in for static display.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI), the country&#8217;s sole aircraft developer, will display its products, including the T-50 Golden Eagle supersonic trainer jet, FA-50 light-armed aircraft\u00a0and KT-1 basic trainer jet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">KAI has exported T-50 variants to several countries, including Indonesia, Iraq, the Philippines\u00a0and Thailand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;During the ADEX event, we will put a priority on promoting the T-50 jet&#8217;s superior performances ahead of the US Air Force&#8217;s T-X trainer acquisition program,&#8221; a KAI official said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hanwha Corp. is set to showcase its wide range of products for ground, naval and air forces.\u00a0Key weapon\u00a0systems for the ground forces include the K-9 self-propelled howitzer,\u00a0the 230mm &#8220;Cheonmoo&#8221; multiple rocket launcher\u00a0and 2.57-inch guided rocket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hanwha also will showcase its robots for underwater reconnaissance and explosive detection missions, the F-404 engine for the T-50\/FA-50, unmanned aircraft, and other aircraft sensor systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;The Seoul ADEX 2015 will be an opportunity for Hanwha to showcase its leading capability in the Korean defense market, as the company is increasing the synergy effect through the acquisition of former Samsung affiliated defense firms,&#8221; Lee Tae-jong, president of Hanwha, said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>US and European defense giants also\u00a0will participate in the six-day event.\u00a0Lockheed Martin will display mock-up products of the F-35 joint strike fighter and the Terminal High Altitude Air Defense\u00a0<span class=\"rte rte-comment\">(THAAD) <\/span>system, while Boeing is to showcase its maritime surveillance aircraft and the KC-135 refueling plane. <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">during the exhibition.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Airbus Defense and Space will display its A400M transport aircraft, which was recently selected as the South Korean Air Force&#8217;s transport plane.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Saab will showcase its Arthur\u00a0mobile weapons-location radar system, <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">and AESA radar and <\/span>electronic warfare technologies and active electronically scanned array radar. It also\u00a0will display its ground launched small diameter bomb and Carl Gustaf M4\u00a0multirole, man-portable, shoulder-launched weapon system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p
