{"id":24495,"date":"2016-05-18T14:39:11","date_gmt":"2016-05-18T14:39:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/defensenews\/uncategorized\/2016\/05\/18\/germany-presses-airbus-to-resolve-a400m-problems\/"},"modified":"2026-08-07T22:08:23","modified_gmt":"2026-08-07T22:08:23","slug":"germany-presses-airbus-to-resolve-a400m-problems","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/defensenews\/training-sim\/2016\/05\/18\/germany-presses-airbus-to-resolve-a400m-problems\/","title":{"rendered":"Germany Presses Airbus to Resolve A400M Problems"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">BERLIN \u2014\u00a0The German government on Wednesday urgently pressed European airplane manufacturer Airbus to come up with a precise plan for resolving the problems that have repeatedly set back delivery of its new military transport, the A400M.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;We urge the manufacturer to come up with a feasible and workable plan,&#8221; a spokesman for the defense ministry, Jens Flosdorff, told a news briefing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After new faults were discovered in the aircraft&#8217;s engines and cracks in its fuselage, &#8220;what is important [for the German government] is that the manufacturer present a plan with which it will be able to resolve these issues in the coming months,&#8221; Flosdorff said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was not yet fully clear how serious the problems were, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The German army, the main customer for Airbus&#8217; military aircraft, has ordered around 50 A400M to replace its aging fleet of Transall planes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It has taken delivery of three, which have revealed a number of faults.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Naturally, we&#8217;re examining all options&#8221; in case the A400M transports are not delivered in time, the ministry spokesman continued. These included the possibility of seeking compensation from Airbus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Airbus A400M military transport\u00a0was briefly grounded last year after one of the
