Peter Gallagher.<\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">WASHINGTON \u2014 U.S. Army organization responsible for modernizing the service\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.c4isrnet.com\/battlefield-tech\/it-networks\/2020\/09\/29\/how-new-network-tools-can-help-find-paratroopers-faster-and-improve-situational-awareness\/\" target=_blank>tactical network<\/a> will soon have a new leader, the army chief of staff announced Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Brig. Gen. Jeth Rey, the J-6 of Central Command, will replace <a href=\"https:\/\/www.c4isrnet.com\/battlefield-tech\/it-networks\/2020\/07\/20\/how-new-prototyping-dollars-will-help-army-network-modernization\/\" target=_blank>Maj. Gen. Peter Gallagher <\/a>as director of the Network Cross-Functional Team, a critical piece of the Army\u2019s modernization efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cBG Jeth Rey is the perfect choice to serve as the next director of the N-CFT,\u201d Gallagher said in a statement to C4ISRNET. \u201cHis years of experience as a Soldier, NCO, Warrant Officer, and Officer with a multitude of conventional and Special Operations Signal and Cyber assignments make him uniquely qualified to lead this critical modernization effort for the Army.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rey will move up from Central Command headquarters at MacDill Air Force Base in Florida to the home of the N-CFT at Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland. Justine Ruggio, spokesperson for the N-CFT, said Rey didn\u2019t yet have a start date and that it\u2019s unclear what\u2019s next for Gallagher. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Under Gallagher, the first director of the N-CFT, the Army started is capability set process, in which new sets of tactical network tools are developed and delivered to soldiers every two years. This year, the service is deploying Capability Set \u201921, which focuses on addressing immediate gaps in the tactical network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gallagher, along with the N-CFT\u2019s acquisition arm Program Executive Office Command, Control, Communications-Tactical, have already started planning<a href=\"https:\/\/www.c4isrnet.com\/battlefield-tech\/c2-comms\/2020\/05\/07\/where-the-next-iteration-of-the-armys-network-capabilities-is-heading\/\" target=_blank> Capability Set \u201823<\/a>. That set, which is scheduled to undergo preliminary design review in April, is focused on increasing network resiliency and increasing broadband.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rey will take over as the Army\u2019s newly separated G-6 and CIO offices focus on connecting the service\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.c4isrnet.com\/battlefield-tech\/it-networks\/2021\/01\/25\/army-connecting-tactical-and-enterprise-networks-for-multidomain-operations\/\" target=_blank>enterprise network with the tactical network<\/a> to support multidomain operations. Gallagher is deeply involved with that effort and hosts biweekly meetings with stakeholders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Prior to his position as CIO\/J-6 of Central Command, Rey served as the director of operations\/G-3 for Army Cyber Command. He also served as the executive officer to the Army CIO\/G-6 and commander of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.c4isrnet.com\/battlefield-tech\/it-networks\/2020\/10\/13\/5-questions-with-the-commander-of-a-special-ops-signal-battalion\/\" target=_blank>112th Special Operations Signal Battalion<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rey will work closely with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.c4isrnet.com\/battlefield-tech\/it-networks\/2020\/07\/24\/how-the-armys-new-peo-c3t-boss-views-network-modernization\/\" target=_blank>PEO C3T director Brig. Gen.
