The command\u2019s simulation center played a key role in this spring\u2019s V Corps command post exercise. The Army reactivated the Europe-focused command at Fort Knox, Kentucky, last year to help with the service\u2019s efforts to compete in Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The 7th ATC also regularly administers exercises in Lithuania, Poland, Ukraine and Georgia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cBeing forward in the competitive space gives us a real appreciation for what the competition looks like,\u201d Hilbert said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For instance, he explained, the command can train with partner forces on the very terrain where a potential conflict would take place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One unique feature of the command\u2019s multinational approach moving forward, according to Hilbert, is the ability for U.S. service members to learn from partner forces who are competing \u2014 and sometimes fighting \u2014 with Russia in real time. Some European partners remain bogged down in frozen conflicts in Ukraine and Georgia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYou\u2019re able to have that first-hand dialogue with someone who\u2019s been in the environment, with somebody who has found … different tactics that work,\u201d Hilbert said. \u201c[We] learn from the Ukrainians who\u2019ve come out of the Donbass … and they are absolutely sharing with us some of the successes and failures that they\u2019ve experienced \u2014 good lessons and bad that we\u2019re able to incorporate into [our training].<\/p>\n\n\n\n
