{"id":27025,"date":"2018-12-14T21:43:55","date_gmt":"2018-12-14T21:43:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/defensenews\/uncategorized\/2018\/12\/14\/italian-firm-leonardo-merges-3-divisions-names-brit-to-head-them\/"},"modified":"2026-08-07T22:18:53","modified_gmt":"2026-08-07T22:18:53","slug":"italian-firm-leonardo-merges-3-divisions-names-brit-to-head-them","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/defensenews\/industry\/2018\/12\/14\/italian-firm-leonardo-merges-3-divisions-names-brit-to-head-them\/","title":{"rendered":"Italian firm Leonardo merges 3 divisions, names Brit to head them"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ROME \u2014 Italy\u2019s Leonardo has announced a major shakeup of its management structure, which will see three of its seven divisions merged and entrusted to one of the firm\u2019s top British managers, Norman Bone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Reporting to CEO Alessandro Profumo, Bone will oversee a new Electronics Division, into which its Land &amp; Naval Defence Electronics, Airborne &amp; Space Systems, and Defence Systems divisions will be merged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bone was previously the head of the Airborne &amp; Space Systems division as well as chairman and managing director of Leonardo\u2019s U.K. operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Defense Systems division includes Leonardo\u2019s torpedo business, formerly known as WASS, and its cannon business, formerly known as Oto Melara.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a statement, Leonardo said the merging of the divisions was designed to \u201cachieve suitable critical mass\u201d in its electronics-related businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis evolution will result in the organizational model being aligned with that of the main players in the market, ensuring an even more integrated development,\u201d the firm said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Additionally, the firm\u2019s Air Traffic Control and Automation Systems businesses will be moved from the firm\u2019s Security &amp; Information Systems Division to the new Electronics Division.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The remainder of the Security &amp; Information Systems division has been renamed the Cyber Security Division, and will be taken over on Jan. 21 by Barbara Poggiali, the firm said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Leonardo\u2019s three other divisions are Helicopters, Aircraft and Aerostructures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The shakeup is the latest stage in the consolidation of Leonardo\u2019s activities, which formerly existed as separate companies including AgustaWestland and Alenia. They were first transformed into divisions of the firm in 2016 as the company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/industry\/2016\/04\/28\/it-s-official-finmeccanica-is-now-leonardo\/\"
