The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">(MMEA) <\/span>will be the final client and will use the\u00a0remotely piloted aircraft <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">on board <\/span>for surveillance, reconnaissance and border control <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">of borders <\/span>missions, industry sources said.\u00a0<span class=\"rte rte-comment\">of the industry told Defense News.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the request of the customer, Thales has not publicly announced the deal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the first export of the Fulmar, which is classified in the mini-UAV category.<span class=\"rte rte-comment\">segment.<\/span> Fulmar is <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">completely<\/span> designed and built in Spain by the Spanish branch of Thales. The UAV\u00a0<span class=\"rte rte-comment\">Its size <\/span>is 3.1 meters long and weighs 19 kilograms, can fly at an <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">it flies to the <\/span>altitude of 3,000 meters and <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">can <\/span>achieve a speed of 150 kilometers per hour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fulmar <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">It <\/span>has <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">a range of <\/span>eight hours of endurance due to <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">a <\/span>low fuel consumption\u00a0and can fly\u00a0<span class=\"rte rte-comment\">\u00a0of the aircraft in flight as a result of its aerodynamic design, and it can fly <\/span>800 kilometers without refueling.\u00a0<span class=\"rte rte-comment\">According to sources close to the negotiations, Fulmar mini-UAV beat the ScanEagle (Boeing Insitu);\u00a0the Bat (Northrop Grumman); and Aerosonde Mark 4.7 (Textron Systems) to gain the contract. <\/span>The value has not been revealed, <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">yet, <\/span>but industry sources said\u00a0<span class=\"rte rte-comment\">of the industry told Defense News a UAV <\/span>Fulmar\u00a0could cost US $1.1 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Its dual use makes it a very versatile solution for both civil uses [traffic control, surveillance of rail lines, tracking fish stocks, surveillance of critical infrastructure like gas pipelines, oil facilities, etc.]\u00a0and military use,&#8221;\u00a0a Thales executive engineer said. <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">focused.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fulmar works with a catapult-based launcher system and net landing capability. It is available for use with a variety of fuel types such as diesel oil, JP8 and JP5, approved for use on combat ships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Spanish branch of Thales is trying to push the use of Fulmar by <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">at <\/span>the Military Emergencies Unit and the Naval Infantry Force of the Spanish armed forces.\u00a0For that reason Thales expects to build 25 Fulmars in two
