(Jeff Martin\/Staff)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">PARIS \u2015 France\u2019s Nexter and Germany\u2019s Krauss-Maffei Wegmann pitched a cross between a Leopard 2 chassis and a Leclerc turret at the Eurosatory trade show in Paris on Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Officially dubbed the European Main Battle Tank, or EMBT, the vehicle is meant to showcase that the German and French companies can work together on the path toward an envisioned Main Ground Combat System pursued by both nations. That weapon is slated to see the light of day in the mid-2030s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Additionally, the developers believe the \u201cFrankentank\u201d meets a real-life demand, and they hope a paying customer might take the idea and run with it. For now, the tank is a demonstrator project funded by the two companies\u2019 joint venture, KNDS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe interest of this program is using the current technology to provide an interesting operational tank to the market and at the same time continue to have an industry activity during the 15-20 years,\u201d Francois Groshany, Nexter\u2019s head of tracked and armor programs, told Defense News in an interview.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe will see at this exhibition if there are some countries interested in it so that we will be able to launch a full development,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Groshany said the benefit of the hybrid machine lies in the Leopard 2\u2032s \u201cvery-high capability\u201d chassis, which can carry up to 68 tons, and merging it with the lightness of the Leclerc\u2019s turret, which needs only a crew of two to operate.<\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-smg-jwplayer-video\"><atype-video-jwplayer nostick=\"true\" playlisturl=\"https:\/\/cdn.jwplayer.com\/v2\/playlists\/fCzRqMW8?tags=5fe3a531-590e-49fe-b563-f8c3e6a3002d\" poster=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/video-poster-5fe3a531-590e-49fe-b563-f8c3e6a3002d.jpg\" aspectratio=\"16 \/ 9\" mute autostart=\"false\"><\/atype-video-jwplayer><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The new European Main Battle Tank from KNDS is the body of a German Leopard 2, mixed with the turret of a French Leclerc. they see fit, he explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The weapon is \u201cproof that KMW and Nexter have established a first significant joint KNDS product in record time,\u201d
