Thirteen of those would be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/your-air-force\/2019\/03\/14\/propeller-cracking-fears-led-air-force-to-ground-60-c-130hs-replace-pre-1971-blades\/\" target=\"_blank\">H-model airframes<\/a>, five would be MC-130H special-operations aircraft and two would be the EC-130H Compass Call models undergoing replacement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rep. Mike Turner, R-Ohio, raised the issue Tuesday at a House Armed Services tactical air and land forces subcommittee hearing, questioning senior Air Force leaders on what might become of local jobs when the C-130H leaves.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/airforcetimes\/news\/your-air-force\/2021\/05\/19\/130th-airlift-wing-tapped-to-convert-to-c-130j-super-hercules\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"157\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/C-130J.jpg.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">130th Airlift Wing tapped to convert to C-130J Super Hercules<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">The Guard unit in Charleston, West Virginia, has eight of the C-130H Hercules aircraft, and has operated various versions of the C-130 since 1975.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe C-130H is on the block in Mansfield, Ohio,\u201d Turner said of Mansfield Lahm Air National Guard Base. \u201cIt could be affected significantly as a result of the decreased number of planes that will need to be transitioned for that facility and other facilities across the country.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Around 30 active-duty, Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard installations host a variant of the versatile airlifter, though the Guard owns about half of the planes. The aircraft can operate from unpaved dirt and is the main airlifter that drops troops and equipment into hostile areas, according to the service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lt. Gen. David Nahom, Air Force deputy chief of staff for plans and programs, pledged not to yank an area\u2019s C-130 enterprise unless Air Force leaders, a unit and its home state reach consensus on a suitable replacement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe\u2019re working very closely with units that have C-130s to see if there\u2019s something out there that we can agree on,\u201d he said at the hearing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some installations are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/your-air-force\/2020\/02\/19\/nevada-air-national-guard-considered-for-c-130-fleet-replacement\/\" target=\"_blank\">welcoming the newer C-130J Super Hercules<\/a>, which requires three crew members instead of the H-model\u2019s five. Maxwell is ditching its C-130H fleet flown by the Air Force Reserve\u2019s 908th Airlift Wing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">MH-139s will replace the UH-1N Huey helicopters that protect nuclear missile silos underground in Wyoming, Montana, North Dakota, Colorado and Nebraska, and can assist in incidents like search-and-rescue missions and emergency egress in the Washington area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">About 100 of the C-130H airframes that would remain in the inventory would <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/your-air-force\/2019\/06\/10\/c-130hs-to-get-avionics-upgrade-in-half-billion-dollar-deal\/\" target=\"_blank\">receive upgrades to keep flying<\/a>.
