Exact figures for the Army and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/news\/your-air-force\/2022\/03\/17\/old-weak-landing-gear-springs-led-to-a-b-2s-10m-skid-off-the-runway\/\" target=\"_blank\">Air Force<\/a> were not immediately clear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cU.S. prosperity and military success depend on the cyber resiliency of the Joint Force to execute missions successfully in a contested environment,\u201d the Pentagon said in a press release <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/land\/2022\/03\/28\/us-armys-178-billion-fy23-budget-protects-modernization-cuts-end-strength\/\" target=\"_blank\">detailing the budget<\/a>. \u201cThe FY 2023 Budget allows for continued investment in cyberspace initiatives.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To advance its goals in cyberspace \u2014 an increasingly influential domain \u2014 the Defense Department plans to invest in cyber training ranges and to add five teams to Cyber Command\u2019s Cyber Mission Force, lifting the total to 142.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The force, now thousands of people strong, was stood up in 2012 to execute the department\u2019s cyber missions and has been dubbed its \u201caction arm.\u201d The Defense Department hoped to add 14 teams to the cyber force over the next three years, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.c4isrnet.com\/cyber\/2021\/05\/28\/after-years-of-flat-cybersecurity-budgets-dod-asks-for-more-money-and-cyber-mission-force-personnel\/\" target=\"_blank\">C4ISRNET reported<\/a> in May 2021, citing an official familiar with the matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cyber Command in 2018 said all of its teams had reached full operational capability. Gen. Paul Nakasone, the Cyber Command chief, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cybercom.mil\/Media\/News\/News-Display\/Article\/1524492\/cyber-mission-force-achieves-full-operational-capability\/\" target=\"_blank\">at the time<\/a> said the teams developed the \u201cskills and capabilities necessary to defend our networks and deliver cyberspace operational capabilities to the nation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A request for comment made to Cyber Command was not immediately answered Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Defense Department\u2019s larger ask and continued emphasis on cyberspace come amid a torrent of concerns expressed by lawmakers and other officials, as well as Russia\u2019s ongoing assault on Ukraine, where internet services have been knocked offline, communications have been jumbled and websites have been paralyzed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.c4isrnet.com\/cyber\/2022\/03\/14\/blue-yellow-and-gray-zone-the-cyber-factor-in-ukraine\/\" target=\"_blank\">distributed denial-of-service attacks<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Budget documents published by the White House describe cyber investment as a priority while explicitly painting Russia as a threat and malign influence that needs countering. The Kremlin\u2019s digital reach has repeatedly stretched to U.S. shores, where hackers and other shady operators have interfered with elections, attempted to sway public sentiment and harassed private industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The FBI, National Security Agency and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency in February accused <a href=\"https:\/\/www.c4isrnet.com\/cyber\/2022\/02\/17\/cisa-accuses-russia-backed-hackers-of-stealing-info-from-us-defense-contractors\/\" target=\"_blank\">Russian-backed hackers<\/a> of targeting U.S. defense contractors and absconding with sensitive or proprietary data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The fiscal year 2023 budget would increase cybersecurity support for the defense
