The announcement follows the completion of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.c4isrnet.com\/battlefield-tech\/space\/2020\/06\/13\/rocket-lab-launches-three-more-us-spy-satellites-into-orbit-from-new-zealand\/\" target=_blank>Rocket Lab\u2019s second successful mission for the agency<\/a> earlier this month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Slated for spring 2021, the missions will take place on Electron rockets from two separate launch pads at Rocket Lab\u2019s New Zealand complex. According to the company, this will allow it to launch the missions within weeks of each other, providing a more responsive launch capability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cGiven the threat to space capabilities posed by potential adversaries, there simply cannot be a waiting room to get on orbit,\u201d said Lars Hoffman, Rocket Lab\u2019s senior vice president of global launch services. \u201cWith Electron launch vehicles on standby for rapid call-up and three launch pads capable of supporting up to 130 missions per year, we stand ready to respond to the national security community\u2019s needs with speed and precision, every time. Rocket Lab has provided launches for NASA, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, the Air Force and, starting in 2020, the NRO. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The company\u2019s first mission with the NRO \u2014 the agency charged with acquiring and maintaining America\u2019s fleet of spy satellites \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.c4isrnet.com\/battlefield-tech\/space\/2020\/01\/23\/the-us-will-launch-its-next-spy-satellite-from-new-zealand\/\" target=_blank>took place in January<\/a>. Though planned for March 2020, Rocket Lab\u2019s second NRO mission was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.c4isrnet.com\/battlefield-tech\/space\/2020\/05\/28\/following-covid-19-delay-three-us-spy-satellites-are-set-for-new-zealand-launch\/\" target=_blank>delayed due to COVID-19 restrictions in New Zealand<\/a>, but on June 13 the company was able to place three more NRO payloads on orbit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe\u2019re very excited to have another successful launch out of New Zealand in partnership with Rocket Lab,\u201d U.S. Air Force Col. Chad Davis, director of the NRO\u2019s Office of Space Launch, said following the June launch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe\u2019re excited about our continued collaboration with Rocket Lab and the New Zealand Space Agency, and thank everyone on the launch team for their dedication and support in making RASR-2 a successful ride-share mission,\u201d he added, using an acronym for the \u201crapid acquisitions of a small rocket\u201d contract vehicle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Like the first two missions with Rocket Lab, the upcoming missions were secured through RASR. Rocket Lab\u2019s January launch was the first mission procured with the new mechanism, which the NRO adopted in 2018 to take advantage of the growing commercial small launch market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMaintaining resilient space architecture and having the ability to deploy assets exactly when and where they\u2019re needed is paramount for U.S. national security
