WASHINGTON \u2014 Congress returns from another long weekend with the same problems they left unresolved last week, last month and last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Friday is the deadline for a new budget deal to keep the government running. March 5 is the deadline set by the president for a new deal on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals policy. And instead of making progress on either issue in recent days, both sides have continued to fight over long-term solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With that as a backdrop, lawmakers on the Senate Veterans\u2019 Affairs Committee on Wednesday will invite VA Secretary David Shulkin to talk about 2017 progress in his department and 2018 goals for further reforms. House Armed Services Committee officials on Thursday invite top Navy officials to talk about future surface warfare challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
