WASHINGTON \u2014 Last December, Ellen Lord sat down with reporters and told them that the reorganization<\/a> of the Pentagon\u2019s Acquisition, Technology and Logistics office would be a two-year process<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, however, Lord believes her Acquisition and Sustainment office will beat that target, easily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI believe we are going to be pretty squared away\u201d by the first quarter of calendar year 2019, Lord told Defense News in an interview following her appearance at the second annual Defense News Conference<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI believe those last critical slots \u2014 a lot of [deputy assistant secretary of defense] slots, a few director slots \u2014 will all be filled by March of \u201919. We\u2019re excited to get going on the work,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The AT&L reorganization included splitting the office into two new units \u2014 the undersecretaries of Acquisition and Sustainment, led by Lord, and of Research and Engineering, led by Mike Griffin<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In July, Deputy Secretary of Defense Pat Shanahan released a memo \u2014 obtained first by Defense News \u2014 finalizing the structures of the new organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\t
