The C-Dome is being installed on Israel\u2019s latest-generation corvette ships, which protect Israel\u2019s coastline and offshore natural gas assets in the Mediterranean Sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The tests simulated a number of incoming threats, including rockets, cruise missiles and drones, the Defense Ministry said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe systems that we are developing as part of Israel\u2019s multi-tier missile defense array enable us to operate against Iranian proxies in the region and defend against their weapon systems, which are constantly being upgraded,\u201d Defense Minister Benny Gantz said. \u201cWe continue to be two steps ahead of them and we will continue developing and upgrading our capabilities in order to maintain security superiority in the region.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ministry said the tests were conducted recently, but declined to give a precise timeline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The C-Dome is to become part of Israel\u2019s multilayer missile defense system, which includes weapons capable of intercepting everything from long-range missiles to short-range rockets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The test comes at a time of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/global\/mideast-africa\/2022\/02\/21\/iran-backed-attacks-are-further-driving-uae-israeli-defense-tech-development\/\" target=\"_blank\">heightened tensions<\/a>. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/global\/mideast-africa\/2022\/02\/16\/hezbollah-claims-its-making-drones-and-missiles-in-lebanon-chief-offers-export-opportunity\/\" target=\"_blank\">Iranian-backed Hezbollah militant group<\/a> launched a pair of drones into Israeli airspace last week, and Iran is believed to be close to signing a new international nuclear deal with global powers that will give it relief from crippling sanctions. Israel opposes the deal, and fears that Iran will divert newly released funds to proxies like Hezbollah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hezbollah has made no secret that it would target Israel\u2019s gas platforms if fighting were to break out. Israel and Hezbollah fought a monthlong war in 2006.
