PARIS \u2014 French electronics company Thales reported a 2018 first-half operating profit of \u20ac762 million (U.S. $886 million), hitting a target of double digits as a percentage of sales<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe operating margin rose sharply, breaking through the 10 percent barrier in (first half) for the first time,\u201d Patrice Caine, chairman and CEO of Thales, said in a statement. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company posted an operating profit of \u20ac762 million, marking 10.2 percent of sales of \u20ac7.45 billion, up 4.7 percent from \u20ac7.12 billion. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

That operating profit was a 30 percent gain from \u20ac587 million a year ago, based on restating the year-ago figures to meet reporting changes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company had shown \u201ca very solid performance,\u201d he said. All the divisions showed \u201ca sharp increase\u201d in operating profit margins and had boosted spending on research and development, up 14 percent from a year ago on a like-for-like basis (or the adjusted measure of the growth).<\/p>\n\n\n\t
