AEHF also serves the United States\u2019 international partners of Canada, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Air Force\u2019s 4th Space Operations Squadron officially took control of the satellite during a brief ceremony on May 3 at Schriever Air Force Base in Colorado. The ceremony comes just days after the Air Force and Lockheed Martin successfully completed on-orbit testing of the satellite, which launched in October.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/c4isrnet\/special-reports\/satcom\/2018\/10\/17\/the-air-force-launched-its-next-protected-communications-satellite\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/av_aehf4_l4.jpg.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">The Air Force launched its next protected communications satellite<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">The launch of AEHF-4 completes the initial AEHF constellation, enabling the military to transmit crucial information 10 times faster than the legacy constellation.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The new satellite increases the service\u2019s capability and brings the program one step closer to its goal of six geosynchronous satellites in orbit. According to Lockheed Martin, the program\u2019s prime contractor, one AEHF satellite provides more capacity than the entire Milstar constellation, allowing the military to transmit real-time video, battlefield maps and targeting data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a statement, Mike Cacheiro, Lockheed Martin Space\u2019s vice president of protected communications, the fourth satellite arrived in its on-orbit position one month early.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The fifth AEHF satellite isn\u2019t far behind. Lockheed Martin announced May 9 it had shipped the fifth satellite in the series to Cape Canaveral Air Force Station ahead of its expected launch on a United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket in June.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe are thrilled to return to the Cape to launch AEHF-5 less than a year after launching AEHF-4, showing an accelerated pace to support the Air Force Space and Missiles Systems Center,\u201d Cacheiro said. \u201cThe AEHF system is essentially a high capacity data network in the sky, and this is a complete paradigm shift for the future of
