WASHINGTON \u2014 Elaine McCusker, who has been serving as the Pentagon\u2019s acting comptroller for 18 months, has resigned, Secretary of Defense Mark Esper announced Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cToday Elaine McCusker submitted her resignation as Deputy Under Secretary of Defense (Comptroller) effective Friday, June 26, 2020,\u201d Esper said in a statement. \u201cSince joining the Department of Defense, Elaine has worked tirelessly to ensure that our budgeting and audit processes give full value to the taxpayer while meeting the enormous security needs of our nation as well as the men and women who serve it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI am grateful for her dedication to public service and the contributions that she has made to the department and wish her the very best in her future endeavors.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

McCusker was sworn in as deputy undersecretary of defense (comptroller) on Aug. 7, 2017. In that role, and then acting as the full comptroller, she played a critical role in the department\u2019s audit process<\/a>, as well as the development of the FY20 and FY21 budgets<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\t
