Russia\u2019s assault on Ukraine is<a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/cyber\/2022\/04\/29\/feared-russian-cyberattacks-against-us-have-yet-to-materialize\/?contentQuery=%7B%22section%22%3A%22%2Fhome%22%2C%22exclude%22%3A%22%2Fcyber%22%2C%22from%22%3A455%2C%22size%22%3A10%7D&#038;contentFeatureId=f0fmoahPVC2AbfL-2-1-8\" target=\"_blank\"> adding to concerns<\/a> about U.S. cybersecurity, as federal officials and other experts warn of Moscow\u2019s malicious cyber history and reach in the digital domain. Expect change.<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">\u201cWe have 15 years of track record that proves that the current approach to cybersecurity, driven by a checklist mentality, is wrong,\u201d says Aaron Weis, the service&#039;s chief information officer. \u201cIt doesn\u2019t work.\u201d<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The accountability office\u2019s evaluation, published Thursday, found that while no entity was fully compliant with key CUI cybersecurity requirements, the Pentagon is moving in the right direction. The GAO from May 2021 to May 2022 focused on some 2,900 CUI systems, most of which are owned by the Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps and the Defense Health Agency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The official responsible for department-wide security of CUI systems is the chief information officer, currently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.c4isrnet.com\/battlefield-tech\/it-networks\/2022\/05\/18\/pentagon-cio-stands-ground-on-december-timeline-for-jedi-follow-up\/\" target=\"_blank\">John Sherman<\/a>. The GAO in its report said the information office \u201chas taken recent action to address\u201d the issues and noted the department has kept tabs on progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The GAO audit included no formal recommendations or fixes for the Pentagon to pursue. Sherman in a pre-publication letter in late April acknowledged the watchdog\u2019s analysis and stood by his office\u2019s work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAs noted within the report, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/pentagon\/2022\/05\/19\/ukraine-getting-battalions-worth-of-artillery-in-new-100-million-aid-package\/\" target=\"_blank\">the Department<\/a> has taken action to work with DoD components to ensure implementation of the appropriate security measures for CUI systems,\u201d Sherman
