LONDON \u2014 The British Army, not unlike its closest allies such as the United States, is struggling with how to effectively operate below the threshold of physical conflict often referred to as the gray zone<\/a>, where information warfare is waged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s no secret Russia executes effective operations in this area, such as misinformation campaigns to sway public opinion as a means of damaging its adversaries without triggering an armed conflict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gaining the \u201cinformation advantage\u201d is critical to operating in such a gray zone of conflict, Brig. Jules Buczacki, the commander of the U.K. 1st Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Brigade, said Sept. 9 at DSEI\u2019s Land Capability Conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DSEI is a major European defense conference and exposition held in London.<\/p>\n\n\n\t
