{"id":42910,"date":"2015-11-13T14:48:27","date_gmt":"2015-11-13T14:48:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/defensenews\/uncategorized\/2015\/11\/13\/denel-honeywell-to-pursue-african-aircraft-upgrades\/"},"modified":"2026-08-07T23:33:57","modified_gmt":"2026-08-07T23:33:57","slug":"denel-honeywell-to-pursue-african-aircraft-upgrades","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/defensenews\/pentagon\/2015\/11\/13\/denel-honeywell-to-pursue-african-aircraft-upgrades\/","title":{"rendered":"Denel, Honeywell To Pursue African Aircraft Upgrades"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>GABORONE, Botswana \u2014 US-based aircraft systems manufacturer Honeywell Aerospace and South African company Denel Aviation have signed an <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">collaborative <\/span>agreement to\u00a0pursue <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">paving the way for the<\/span> joint <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">exploration of <\/span>retrofit, modification and upgrade opportunities on fixed-wing military aircraft in <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">he<\/span>\u00a0sub-Saharan Africa. <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">region.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a statement, Denel Aviation said the agreement, signed last month, seeks to provide military aircraft operators in sub-Saharan Africa with &#8220;integrated solutions for a wide range of Honeywell avionics, satellite communications systems and mechanical products that will enhance safety, reliability and efficiency,&#8221; while reducing costs and increasing\u00a0operational capabilities of the aircraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Honeywell said the collaboration with Denel allows <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">provides <\/span>both companies <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">with an opportunity <\/span>to deliver improved communication services and rapid maintenance and repair services. <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">, which will help customers extend the lifespans of their assets. <\/span>The partnership said its maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) service will handle nearly\u00a01,500 military and commercial aircraft from sub-Saharan Africa within the first few years of its launch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Honeywell Aerospace becomes Denel Aviation&#8217;s fourth international MRO partner. Most recently, in 2013, it signed an agreement with\u00a0<span class=\"rte rte-comment\">after <\/span>Russian Helicopters <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">, which in 2013 signed an agreement <\/span>to provide upgrade, repair and maintenance services to all Russian military and civilian helicopters in Africa. Denel, <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">The company, <\/span>which produces the Rooivalk helicopter used by the South African Air Force, also operates a service center for the C-130 Hercules heavy-lift aircraft on behalf of Lockheed Martin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Denel Aviation also provides MRO services for Airbus Helicopters&#8217;\u00a0Puma, Super Puma and Squirrel aircraft operating in Africa. The MRO facility also provides depot-level maintenance of electrical, oxygen, avionics, and hydro-mechanical components in addition to calibration of test and ground-support equipment for Airbus
