Air Force official said Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">President Donald Trump has yet to determine what steps the Defense Department may take if Turkey moves forward with the S-400 buy. Turkish companies play a key industrial role in the program as one of the producers of the center fuselage and the maker of the cockpit display.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Grant said she was unaware how long it would take to replace Turkey\u2019s contributions to the F-35 program or what proposed solutions the Trump administration is offering to the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But she fears it may be too late at this point to persuade the Turkish government to abandon the S-400 deal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt is what it is at this point. If they\u2019ve made up their mind already, they\u2019re a sovereign nation \u2014 to buy another country\u2019s system, we\u2019re going to have to work through those policy issues,\u201d she said. \u201cBut what I\u2019d like to do when I get over there [to DTSA] is [figure out] how do we avoid even getting to that point and make sure that U.S. is the partner of choice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Did we do enough work up front to try to prevent it? In October, Turkish Defence Minister Hulusi Akar <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/land\/2018\/10\/26\/turkey-defense-minister-announces-timeline-for-s-400-deployment\/\" target=_blank>expressed disappointment with U.S. and European air defense system offerings<\/a> and said that Turkey may receive the S-400 as early as fall 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Despite political friction between the United States and Turkey, the relationship between the countries\u2019 militaries continues to be solid, Grant said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cLike any country, we\u2019re going to have what I consider policy ups and downs, leadership changes at the political level that can change a relationship. But as far as the mil-to-mil relationship right now, it remains strong.
