None have come forward publicly despite rumors of a dark horse or two.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Absent from the usual brood of combat vehicle manufacturers is BAE Systems. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/land\/2019\/06\/10\/major-combat-vehicle-player-wont-participate-in-us-armys-optionally-manned-fighting-vehicle-competition\/\" target=\"_blank\">Defense News broke the news<\/a> earlier this year that the company wouldn\u2019t compete in the OMFV competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Textron has joined the Raytheon and Rheinmetall team with plans to, if chosen to build the new vehicle, build Lynx here in the United States at its Slidell, Louisiana, manufacturing facility. Raytheon and Rheinmetall announced a joint venture Oct. 1 \u2014 calling it Raytheon Rheinmetall Land Systems LLC \u2014 to pursue the OMFV competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cGeneral Dynamics Land Systems submitted our OMFV proposal and bid sample to the US Army on 27 September. GD\u2019s bid sample was purpose built to address the desired system lethality, survivability and mobility as substantiation of our response to the Army\u2019s request for proposal,\u201d the company said in a statement sent to Defense News. The company did not provide details on the submission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">GDLS did note, however, that it is proposing a \u201cpurpose built vehicle\u201d using technologies from other platforms and \u201cyears of investment in advanced capabilities to include a 50mm cannon,\u201d according to the statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/defensenews\/land\/2018\/10\/30\/army-modernization-fosters-boom-in-us-foreign-partnerships\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/lynx.jpg.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">US Army\u2019s modernization efforts foster boom in US-foreign partnerships<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">The U.S. Army&#039;s ambitious goals are opening the door for international companies to compete stateside. But to be successful, these firms are increasingly seeking out American partners rather than trying to go it alone.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Army <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/land\/2019\/03\/29\/armys-request-for-proposals-to-build-next-gen-combat-vehicle-prototypes-drops\/\" target=_blank>released its request for proposals in March <\/a>opening a competition to build prototypes. The service plans to choose from the pool of bidders up to two teams to build 14 prototypes each.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The service will choose a winner that will start replacing Bradleys in 2026 that is designed to better operate in future environments that would allow soldiers to maneuver to a position of advantage and \u201cto engage in close combat and deliver decisive lethality during the execution of the combined arms maneuver,\u201d according to an Army statement issued along with the RFP release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some of the threshold requirements for OMFV are a 30mm cannon and a second-generation, forward-looking infrared system, or FLIR. Objective requirements are a 50mm cannon and a third-generation FLIR.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Brig. Gen. Ross Coffman, who is in charge of Next-Generation Combat Vehicle (NGCV) modernization efforts, said at the Defense News Conference in September that he is confident the requirements set for OMFV are right and had no plans to change them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The selected prototypes will go through \u201crigorous\u201d operational testing and soldier assessments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Army plans to downselect to one vehicle for low-rate initial production following the assessments and
