In the coming years, the Pentagon\u2019s area of focus, the Pacific, will count more than two dozen \u201cmegacities\u201d or urban areas<\/a> with more than 10 million inhabitants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The most highly populated area where the Army has had recent boots-on-the-ground<\/a> combat was Baghdad, Iraq, which then had fewer than 7.5 million people but swallowed military resources <\/a>insatiably.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yet, on the active duty side of the Army, there is not a dedicated school, institution, center of excellence or specifically designated entity or office with reasonable capacity and resources focused on fighting in urban terrain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is despite the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley\u2019s address<\/a> to the 2022 graduating class at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.<\/p>\n\n\n\t
