Don Bacon told the <a href=\"https:\/\/omaha.com\/news\/local\/covid-related-shortages-could-send-tab-for-offutt-rebuilding-through-the-roof\/article_9e91b108-5c71-11ec-ac36-c7baf2612ad4.html#tracking-source=home-top-story\">Omaha World-Herald<\/a> that he\u2019s been told by Offutt officials to expect the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/your-air-force\/2019\/05\/02\/air-force-increases-estimate-to-repair-and-rebuild-offutt-to-420-million\/\" target=\"_blank\">original estimate<\/a> of nearly $800 million to rise to around $1.1 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Officials at Offutt\u2019s 55th Wing agreed that costs would be higher, but declined to specify an amount. Lt. Col Chris Conover said initial estimates were done quickly and with incomplete information about what the reconstruction would need to include. He also blamed the COVID-19 pandemic for pushing up the costs of supplies and labor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/your-air-force\/2019\/03\/18\/floodwaters-overwhelm-one-third-of-offutt-nine-aircraft-evacuated\/\" target=\"_blank\">flood hit Offutt on March 15, 2019<\/a>. About one-third of the base was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/your-air-force\/2019\/03\/28\/offutt-runway-gets-clean-bill-of-health-after-flooding-limited-operations-resume\/\" target=\"_blank\">inundated with water up to 8 feet deep<\/a>.
