The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/air-warfare\/2025\/11\/03\/guardsman-learns-to-fly-autonomous-black-hawk-in-less-than-an-hour\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"\" title=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/air-warfare\/2025\/11\/03\/guardsman-learns-to-fly-autonomous-black-hawk-in-less-than-an-hour\/\">Army<\/a> is aiming to reach initial operational capability by fiscal 2030.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/land\/2025\/10\/15\/general-atomics-successfully-tests-next-gen-artillery-round\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"\">tested<\/a> a version of the projectile at Yuma Proving Ground, Arizona, last year, successfully hitting targets more than 74 miles away after being fired from an M777 howitzer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Instead of traveling only along a predetermined path, maneuvering munitions can change course in-flight to be more precise. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The projectile is updated to travel farther while remaining compatible with existing artillery platforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOur projectile is engineered to provide extended range without rocket assist and remains compatible with legacy cannons and loaders. Its features include deployable wings and advanced redundant guidance systems,\u201d Michael Rucker, vice president of GA-EMS Weapons Programs, said in the company\u2019s release. \u201cThese capabilities provide agility and mission flexibility, supporting strike and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The U.S. Navy also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ga.com\/ga-awarded-navy-contract-to-advance-long-range-maneuvering-projectile\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"\">tapped<\/a> the company in late 2024 to continue developing the projectile for maritime use. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The effort is part of the Army\u2019s push to extend the range of cannon artillery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the service\u2019s 2024 <a href=\"https:\/\/sam.gov\/opp\/5efd83a191894b83ae1db261de81c623\/view\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"\">solicitation<\/a>, the new projectiles are intended to \u201cdefeat infantry fighting vehicles, self-propelled howitzers, multiple rocket launchers (MRLs), air defense targets, main battle tanks (MBT) and maritime targets of
