Doug Small.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Project Overmatch represents the service\u2019s contribution to the Department of Defense\u2019s larger connect-everything-everywhere campaign known as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.c4isrnet.com\/unmanned\/uas\/2024\/02\/13\/airborne-triton-drone-key-to-navys-signal-goals-clapperton-says\/\" target=\"_blank\">Combined Joint All-Domain Command and Control<\/a>, or CJADC2. Details about the project have been scant since its inception in 2020, a move experts say is necessitated by Russian and Chinese monitoring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Small, the leader of Naval Information Warfare Systems Command, on Feb. 14 told West conference attendees in San Diego that much was learned from the trials with the Carl Vinson, and that enhancements have since been made.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s never something we\u2019re done with. It\u2019s a constant learning and a constant improving process,\u201d Small said. \u201cNot only have we fielded it, we\u2019ve updated and re-fielded and delivered over-the-air capability based on what it is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.navytimes.com\/news\/your-military\/2024\/02\/15\/dod-looks-to-revamp-housing-facilities-on-military-installations\/\" target=\"_blank\">that sailors need<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He didn\u2019t specify what corners of the fleet are now imbued with the advanced networking and data handling associated with CJADC2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"6016\" height=\"4016\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Rear-Adm.-Doug-Small-Sea-Air-Space.jpg.jpg\" alt=\"U.S. Navy Rear Adm. (Colin Demarest\/C4ISRNET)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Navy officials in the past have said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.c4isrnet.com\/battlefield-tech\/c2-comms\/2023\/02\/15\/navys-project-overmatch-boss-pushing-hard-for-international-synergy\/\" target=\"_blank\">Project Overmatch\u2019s rollout<\/a> would first concentrate on the Indo-Pacific \u2014 a vast region where the U.S. may butt heads with China \u2014 and then expand globally. Project Overmatch was also expected to play a role in the Large Scale Exercise 23, which featured 25,000 sailors and Marines as well as aircraft carriers, submarines, logistics support and simulated units.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Lisa Franchetti, speaking at the same event, said the service is seeking fleet-wide connectivity to support distributed maritime operations and \u201cto achieve decision superiority and lethality at machine speed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Distributed maritime operations aims to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.c4isrnet.com\/battlefield-tech\/it-networks\/5g\/2022\/06\/22\/viasat-to-test-5g-networking-for-marine-corps-operations\/\" target=\"_blank\">scatter warships across larger distances<\/a> and make them both harder to find and harder to target.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThrough Project Overmatch, we\u2019re building a software-defined network solution and modern software pipelines to provide as many pathways as possible to connect and share information,\u201d Franchetti said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Navy sought $192 million for Project Overmatch <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/congress\/budget\/\" target=\"_blank\">in fiscal 2024<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>U.S. Navy
