The company now says it wants to apply lessons from that mission, dubbed Victus Nox, to other areas including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.c4isrnet.com\/battlefield-tech\/space\/2023\/01\/06\/raytheon-millennium-get-more-funding-for-missile-tracking-satellites\/\" target=\"_blank\">the Space Force\u2019s Missile Track Custody program<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe will definitely be able to transfer that knowledge and leverage that success from Victus Nox on programs like Missile Track Custody,\u201d CEO Jason Kim told C4ISRNET in an interview.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For Victus Nox, Millennium took advantage of its active Altair satellite bus production line to deliver a spacecraft <a href=\"https:\/\/www.c4isrnet.com\/battlefield-tech\/space\/2023\/09\/15\/us-space-force-launches-victus-nox-responsive-space-mission\/\" target=\"_blank\">in a matter of months \u2014 a process that typically takes years<\/a>. Then, just 60 hours before liftoff, the Space Force notified the company that it should ship the satellite to Vandenberg Space Force Base in California and integrate it with a Firefly Aerospace rocket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Following the launch, the satellite completed its checkout and was ready for operations in 37 hours. That phase often takes weeks or months, Kim said, and that speed is largely owed to the automated systems Millennium uses for on-orbit checkout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cDue to that flexibility and due to the active production lines, we can move really fast,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In late November, Millennium completed its critical design review for the Missile Track Custody program, which aims to develop a constellation of satellites in medium Earth orbit, or 1,200-22,000 miles above Earth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sensors will equip those spacecraft to spot and track missiles as well as send data to users on the ground. The Space Force plans to develop the satellites in batches, or epochs, with each more capable than the next. The first epoch will include nine satellites, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.c4isrnet.com\/battlefield-tech\/space\/2023\/04\/03\/space-force-fleshing-out-second-phase-of-missile-tracking-program\/\" target=\"_blank\">and the second 18<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The service requested $538 million for the effort in fiscal 2024, and it plans to spend $3.5 billion through fiscal 2028 to build out the constellation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Millennium <a href=\"https:\/\/www.c4isrnet.com\/battlefield-tech\/space\/2021\/05\/27\/these-two-companies-will-build-digital-models-of-the-space-forces-new-missile-warning-sensors\/\" target=\"_blank\">is on contract to deliver six satellites <\/a>as part of the first epoch. The defense firm RTX, formerly Raytheon Technologies, will deliver three. The service awarded L3Harris Technologies a prototyping contract in June, and the company intends to compete for the second epoch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now that Millennium\u2019s satellite has passed its critical design review, it is set to enter a yearlong test phase. Lindsay Dewald, deputy program manager for the effort, told C4ISRNET the company will use digital engineering tools to validate the system\u2019s performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe\u2019re transitioning to high-fidelity testing of various aspects that verify and validate our analysis to date in that digital environment,\u201d she said. \u201cWe perform those tests throughout 2024 while we are receiving parts that are already on order, enabling us to be ready for an integration readiness review.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That review will occur in late 2024 or early 2025, she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The program carries some schedule and technical risks, but Dewald noted the company\u2019s use of heritage components and its rigorous digital testing environment should mitigate those and keep the program on pace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As it focuses on the first epoch\u2019s satellite development, Millennium is also thinking ahead to the second epoch. The Space Force plans to release a draft solicitation in early 2024 and a final request for proposals later that year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.c4isrnet.com\/battlefield-tech\/space\/2022\/04\/12\/space-companies-investing-in-small-satellite-production-capacity-as-customers-shift-to-hybrid-architectures\/\" target=\"_blank\">The company is establishing a production line<\/a> dedicated to Missile Track Custody, and Kim and Dewald noted that having a stable satellite design for the first epoch will help the company in later stages of the program when it\u2019s incorporating new capabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThroughout the recent phases &#8230; we kept an eye on not only ensuring we meet our Epoch 1 requirements and capabilities, but how do we put the hooks in and how do we account for being able to do refresh and mature technology in the future to meet the
