{"id":52406,"date":"2017-12-28T21:08:57","date_gmt":"2017-12-28T21:08:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/defensenews\/uncategorized\/2017\/12\/28\/israel-aerospace-industries-boss-to-step-down\/"},"modified":"2026-08-07T23:46:39","modified_gmt":"2026-08-07T23:46:39","slug":"israel-aerospace-industries-boss-to-step-down","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/defensenews\/industry\/2017\/12\/28\/israel-aerospace-industries-boss-to-step-down\/","title":{"rendered":"Israel Aerospace Industries boss to step down"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">WASHINGTON \u2014 The head of Israel Aerospace Industries is stepping down after nearly six years at the post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span class=\"js-paste-start-1514492979189\">Joseph Weiss became president and CEO of IAI in 2012, and he notably increased the number of new contracts signed across the globe to $5.5 billion in contracts in the past year and helped the company reach an order backlog of more than $11 billion, according to the release.<span class=\"js-paste-end-1514492979189\"><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI end my term as the CEO of Israel\u2019s largest defense company, which is also the country\u2019s largest high tech company, in a year which is one of the most successful and turbulent in its history,\u201d Weiss said in the release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">IAI is the largest company in Israel, as a leading manufacturer of drones, fighter aircraft, missile, avionics and space-based systems. The company also has a healthy commercial aviation business, which Weiss has sought to grow in the last couple of years in an effort to better balance the portfolio. He also spoke quite candidly about IAI\u2019s structure of government ownership \u2014 telling Defense News in 2016 that it brought both opportunities and challenges. <\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-smg-jwplayer-video\"><atype-video-jwplayer nostick=\"true\" playlisturl=\"https:\/\/cdn.jwplayer.com\/v2\/playlists\/fCzRqMW8?tags=1e875647-8891-4e86-bea9-e64a3aa5b782\" aspectratio=\"16 \/ 9\" mute autostart=\"false\"><\/atype-video-jwplayer><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Israel Aerospace Industries CEO  Israel Aerospace Industries Joseph Weiss offers his take on whether repaired relations between the two countries could shift defense opportunities and collaboration.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The executive\u2019s tenure was not without its hurdles. Weiss was in the news recently when the <a href=\"\/TEMP-LINK-TEMP\/\" title=\"\" class=\"selected-link\">Trump administration upheld a visa denial<\/a> that temporarily banned Weiss from entering the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a matter of policy, the U.S. government does not explain reasons for visa denials. \u201cThey gave no reason, no connotations that it had anything to do with the security of the United States. Just declined,\u201d Weiss told Defense News in an interview.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Also during his tenure, <a href=\"\/TEMP-LINK-TEMP\/\" title=\"\" class=\"\">13 suspects<\/a> associated with the company were arrested for alleged offenses ranging from fraud, money laundering and breach of trust to outright theft. At the time, police said the suspects included those \u201cwho were supposed to be guardians of the public trust, advisers, suppliers and service providers to IAI.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt is with great pride and satisfaction that I hand over the helm to the next generation of talented managers,\u201d Weiss said in the release. \u201cI am confident they will take IAI even farther, preserve and grow its huge contribution to Israel\u2019s security and economy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He has promised to stay with the company until his replacement is appointed.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><i><a href=\"\/TEMP-LINK-TEMP\/\" data-original-title=\"\" title=\"\" class=\"selected-link\"
