The private network powered experiments with virtual and augmented reality, high-definition video surveillance and artificial intelligence extended from the cloud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe AT&amp;T 5G-powered solution we\u2019ve delivered at Naval Base Coronado is a first of its kind, high-performance, highly secure, and scalable private network solution,\u201d Lance Spencer, a client executive vice president for defense at AT&amp;T, said in a statement. \u201cWe expect it will serve as the foundation for improved efficiency, timeliness, accuracy, security, and safety of naval warehouse operations.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The announcement comes four months after AT&amp;T claimed initial success in 5G testing for smart warehouses \u2014 with speeds greater than 4 gigabits per second \u2014 at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinecorpstimes.com\/smr\/5g\/2022\/02\/01\/att-sees-progress-in-navys-5g-smart-warehouse-experiment\/?contentQuery=%7B%22section%22%3A%22%2Fhome%22%2C%22exclude%22%3A%22%2Fnaval%22%2C%22from%22%3A365%2C%22size%22%3A10%7D&#038;contentFeatureId=f0fmoahPVC2AbfL-2-1-8\" target=\"_blank\">a test bed in Richardson, Texas<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Pentagon in October 2020 unveiled a $600 million investment in 5G experimentation across five U.S. military installations, representing the largest full-scale tests for dual-use applications in the world. Additional investments were made in 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At Naval Base Coronado, the intent is to forge a 5G-powered smart warehouse that can improve the efficiency and fidelity of logistics from shore to ship. Timothy Brown, the commanding officer of Naval Supply Systems Command Fleet Logistics Center San Diego. \u201cAs one of the first sites funded to test this technology for the U.S. military, we will help map 5G development and DoD strategies moving into the future.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fifth-generation wireless technologies promise <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/battlefield-tech\/it-networks\/5g\/2022\/04\/06\/pentagon-launches-5g-challenge-with-millions-up-for-grabs\/\" target=\"_blank\">faster speeds<\/a>, reduced latency and the ability to accommodate more and more-advanced devices compared with its predecessors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pentagon officials consider 5G a pillar of defense modernization and international competition.
