{"id":54839,"date":"2016-01-07T19:18:28","date_gmt":"2016-01-07T19:18:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/defensenews\/uncategorized\/2016\/01\/07\/lockheed-to-upgrade-us-army-apache-displays-to-color\/"},"modified":"2026-08-07T23:59:06","modified_gmt":"2026-08-07T23:59:06","slug":"lockheed-to-upgrade-us-army-apache-displays-to-color","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/defensenews\/land\/2016\/01\/07\/lockheed-to-upgrade-us-army-apache-displays-to-color\/","title":{"rendered":"Lockheed To Upgrade US Army Apache Displays to Color"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>WASHINGTON \u2014\u00a0Lockheed Martin <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">has <\/span>won a $54.3 million Army contract to upgrade a day-and-night vision target-acquisition-sensor display <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">screen <\/span>in the AH-64 Apache helicopter cockpit to color for the first time, the company said Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Modernized Target Acquisition Designation Sight\/Pilot Night Vision Sensor (M-TADS\/PNVS) has long been &#8220;the eyes&#8221; of the Army&#8217;s attack helicopter, but <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">with the new upgrades<\/span> pilots will be able to identify<span class=\"rte rte-comment\"> on the displays<\/span> targets in infrared and in color at further distances through an additional field of view with a higher resolution with the new upgrades to the displays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 35 Modernized Day Sensor Assembly (M-DSA) kits and spares will also include a new laser-pointer marker and a multi-mode laser with eye-safe lasing capability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under the contract, Lockheed will <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">not only <\/span>furnish M-DSA kits to the Army<span class=\"rte rte-comment\"> but also to<\/span> and to the Qatar Emiri Air Force. Production will take place at Lockheed&#8217;s Orlando and Ocala, Florida, facilities through March 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;These enhancements enable faster situational understanding for aircrews and more accurate coordination with ground troops,&#8221; Matt Hoffman, the M-TADS\/PNVS director at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control, said. &#8220;With the Apache expected to be in service through 2045, we&#8217;re continuing to invest in sensor upgrades, such as the M-DSA, to ensure aircrews have the capabilities they need to address emerging threats.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lockheed has delivered more than 1,350 M-TADS\/PNVS systems to the Army and other countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p
