{"id":58076,"date":"2015-09-11T14:12:13","date_gmt":"2015-09-11T14:12:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/defensenews\/uncategorized\/2015\/09\/11\/supacat-unveils-latest-lrv-400-recon-vehicle\/"},"modified":"2026-08-08T00:15:23","modified_gmt":"2026-08-08T00:15:23","slug":"supacat-unveils-latest-lrv-400-recon-vehicle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/defensenews\/digital-show-dailies\/dsei\/2015\/09\/11\/supacat-unveils-latest-lrv-400-recon-vehicle\/","title":{"rendered":"Supacat Unveils Latest LRV 400 Recon Vehicle"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">LONDON \u2014\u00a0The DSEi show is not scheduled to open its doors at London&#8217;s Excel Centre until Sept. 15.\u00a0But British specialist military vehicle maker Supacat has decided not to wait to take the wraps off the latest version of its LRV 400 Special Forces light reconnaissance vehicle it will debut\u00a0when the lights go up on what promises to be the world&#8217;s biggest defense show of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Supacat has improved on the first version of the vehicle it launched in 2012 with a number of upgrades incorporated in the Mk2 being displayed for the first time at the show.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A company spokesman said the most significant design change was a switch of the automotive platform to the Land Rover Discovery rather than the rally car platform previously offered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two of the Mk 2 LRV400&#8217;s are built and a third is in production. The spokesman said the company expects to have four vehicles complete by the end of the year and be fully production ready by the middle of 2016.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The spokesman wouldn&#8217;t comment on potential\u00a0customers for the LRV400Mk2, but it is known several Special Forces organizations are shopping for a vehicle in this class.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The vehicle is effectively a scaled down version of the Honiton, West England, company&#8217;s Jackal light patrol vehicle purchased in large numbers by the British\u00a0for action in Afghanistan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">LRV400 is able to be converted from 4&#215;4 to 6&#215;6 configuration in similar fashion to Supacat&#8217;s larger Extenda vehicles purchased by Australia and others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Phil Applegarth, the head of Supacat, said that LRV400 Mk2 gives users the ability to drive on and off a Chinook helicopter\u00a0operationally ready.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Email:\u00a0<a
