{"id":59886,"date":"2015-04-23T16:23:37","date_gmt":"2015-04-23T16:23:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/defensenews\/uncategorized\/2015\/04\/23\/subpanels-finish-work-a-10-s-fate-unresolved\/"},"modified":"2026-08-08T00:19:30","modified_gmt":"2026-08-08T00:19:30","slug":"subpanels-finish-work-a-10-s-fate-unresolved","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/defensenews\/congress\/2015\/04\/23\/subpanels-finish-work-a-10-s-fate-unresolved\/","title":{"rendered":"Subpanels Finish Work, A-10&#8217;s Fate Unresolved"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">WASHINGTON \u2014 Six House Armed Services Committee subpanels have signed off on their portions of a Pentagon policy bill, leaving contentious issues like the A-10 attack plane&#8217;s future to be decided by all HASC members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The subcommittees on Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning moved quickly through what HASC calls public markups, most approving their parts of the bill in five or 10 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/budget-policy\/budget\"><span style=\"color: #1990e5; background-color: #ffffff;\">Complete coverage of the 2016 budget<\/span><\/a><\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As is the committee&#8217;s custom, its Tactical Air and Land Forces subcommittee opted against addressing whether to reverse an Air Force proposal to retire its A-10s in its section of the 2016 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;That&#8217;s definitely a full committee issue,&#8221; a HASC Republican aide told reporters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A-10 proponents, including former Thunderbolt pilot Rep. But a McSally spokesman has not responded to an inquiry about her plans for a possible A-10 amendment at the full HASC markup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A Democratic HASC aide told reporters the matter &#8220;has taken up less time this year&#8221; among staffers and members than in the run-up to last year&#8217;s NDAA markup because <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">. Mac Thornberry, R-Texas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Aides say the full panel markup could last until 3 a.m. next Thursday.
