WASHINGTON \u2014 The Army has disqualified Raytheon and Rheinmetall\u2019s bid for the Optionally Manned Fighting Vehicle<\/a> prototype competition, Defense News has learned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The OMFV<\/a> is meant to replace the service\u2019s Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicle. The Army\u2019s plan was to take the bid samples submitted this week, evaluate them over a period of time and then choose two companies to deliver 14 prototypes each and then would pick a single winner after further evaluation. The Army\u2019s goal was to begin replacing Bradleys in 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Army would not comment on the disqualification and said in a statement sent to Defense News that the solicitation for the OMFV prototyping effort closed on Oct. 1 and \u201cwe are now in the competition sensitive Source Selection Evaluation process.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The service noted in the statement that it \u201cremains committed to rapidly execute the Optionally Manned Fighting Vehicle program,\u201d its number two modernization priority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But multiple sources have confirmed that the bid \u2014 Rheinmetall\u2019s Lynx 41 Infantry Fighting Vehicle \u2014 was disqualified and the bid sample, the only one in existence, remains in Germany at the company\u2019s facility in Unterluss.<\/p>\n\n\n\t
