{"id":61653,"date":"2015-04-24T16:52:40","date_gmt":"2015-04-24T16:52:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/defensenews\/uncategorized\/2015\/04\/24\/will-panel-authorize-more-f-35s-for-marines\/"},"modified":"2026-08-08T00:31:11","modified_gmt":"2026-08-08T00:31:11","slug":"will-panel-authorize-more-f-35s-for-marines","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/defensenews\/congress\/2015\/04\/24\/will-panel-authorize-more-f-35s-for-marines\/","title":{"rendered":"Will Panel Authorize More F-35s for Marines?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">WASHINGTON \u2014 House Armed Services Committee members next week must decide whether to accept a subpanel&#8217;s recommendation to clear the Marine Corps to buy more F-35 fighters next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>HASC Tactical Air and Land Forces subcommittee aides say their portion of the 2016 N<span class=\"rte rte-comment\">n<\/span>ational D<span class=\"rte rte-comment\">d<\/span>efense A<span class=\"rte rte-comment\">a<\/span>uthorization A<span class=\"rte rte-comment\">a<\/span>ct (NDAA) proposes more than the six B model F-35s the Marines requested.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The aides described the idea as, for now, just &#8220;a proposal to the full committee.&#8221; The entire HASC will convene next Wednesday to mark up its 2016 NDAA, and the F-35B issue will be among a list of unresolved subcommittee proposals and member amendments on the crowded docket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/budget-policy\/budget\" style=\"color: #1990e5; background-color: #ffffff;\"><b>Complete coverage of the 2016 budget<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because of defense spending caps put in place by the 2011 Budget Control Act (BCA), any proposals to add any number of platforms beyond the number requested by a service means the amount of the additional buy must be offset by cutting something else within the Pentagon&#8217;s budget.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Finding potential offsets within a nearly $500 billion budget is not a difficult mathematical practice.
