The organization, known as DIANA, chose 44 companies for Phase I, selecting firms whose technology could address needs in both defense and commercial markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The companies participated in a competition series last fall that took place across five cities: Tallinn, Estonia; Turin, Italy; Copenhagen, Denmark; Boston; and Seattle. During the events, companies used emerging technology to solve real-world defense challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cTo move into Phase II, innovators had to demonstrate progress in their commercial and defense market potential, the technical viability and novelty of their solutions, and their investment readiness,\u201d NATO said in a statement. \u201cReview panels comprised technical, defense and innovation experts.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 10 companies that will transition to the next phase of DIANA\u2019s challenge series are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00b7 Aquark Technologies, a quantum firm based in the United Kingdom<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00b7 Astrolight, a laser communications company in Lithuania<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00b7 Dolphin Labs, an ocean-observation company in the U.S.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00b7 Ephos, a computing firm based in Italy<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00b7 Goldilock, a UK-based privacy firm<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00b7 IONATE, a U.K. firm specializing in smart energy platforms<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00b7 Lobster Robotics, a mapping company based in the Netherlands<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00b7 Phantom Photonics, a Canadian quantum sensing company<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00b7 Revobeam, a polish antenna firm<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00b7 Secqai, a computing company in the U.K.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The selected firms will receive up to \u20ac300,000 ($330,000).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.c4isrnet.com\/battlefield-tech\/2023\/05\/19\/pentagon-seeks-approval-to-fund-nato-defense-technology-accelerator\/\" target=\"_blank\">DIANA is jointly funded<\/a>, which means NATO doesn\u2019t draw from the common fund that allies are required to contribute toward. Instead, member nations choose whether to pay into DIANA. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defense.gov\/News\/Releases\/Release\/Article\/3288888\/dod-announces-u-s-representative-to-nato-defence-innovation-accelerator-for-the\/\">The U.S. Defense Department last year appointed Jeffrey Singleton<\/a>, U.S. principal member and head of the delegation to the NATO Science and Technology Board, as the U.S. representative to DIANA\u2019s board of directors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The accelerator has <a href=\"https:\/\/s3.amazonaws.com\/static.militarytimes.com\/assets\/pdfs\/1679668694.pdf\">more than 100 affiliated test centers <\/a>across nearly every country that partners with NATO.
