Federal spending on cloud nearly tripled from fiscal 2013 to 2014, according to a report from research firm Govini. The trend is continuing in fiscal 2015, suggesting that federal fears about cloud security are fading.
Specifically, Govini found that from 2011 to 2014 in the federal government:
- Spending for cloud-based office productivity software increased from $577 million to $1 billion, or 73 percent.
- Customer Relationship Management software spending rose by 30 percent.
- Financial software rose only a modest 4 percent, but is among the largest software-as-a-service segments.
- Software-defined data services spiked 54 percent during the four-year period.
