Many agencies are trying to modernize IT, and are exploring paths such as cloud computing and data center consolidation in an attempt to reduce costs and improve service.
To make the transition effective, organizations should use a variety of metrics to evaluate their technologies, according to an article at BizTech.com.

Drawing on a survey of private-sector businesses, the article reports that “fewer than half [of the executives surveyed] rate the level of innovation in their IT groups as ‘good’ or ‘very high,’ and fewer still give those ratings when asked about IT’s progress toward a true IT transformation.”
The executives suggested a range of metrics, including the reliability and security of infrastructure, quality and timeliness of application delivery and speed of problem resolution.
