On Oct. 27, the General Services Administration announced it had hired former Pixar executive Rob Cook to head its Technology Transformation Service, and after officially beginning his new role on Oct. 31, Cook published a blog entry titled “Why I’m Joining the Technology Transformation Service.”
Originally published on the GSA blog, and reposted on CIO.gov, the entry touches on the great promise Cook saw that led him from co-developing Oscar-winning, photo-realistic rendering software to running a team comprised of people from the 18F innovation shop, the Office of Citizen Services and Innovative Technologies, and the Presidential Innovation Fellows program.
“I believe the Technology Transformation Service has an unprecedented chance to dramatically improve the way we all interact with our government,” Cook said.
“Digital technology was mostly invented here in the United States and exemplifies deeply American values such as empowerment of the individual, freedom of communication and association and a vibrant spirit of optimism,” Cook continued. “So it seems only right that our government should be wholeheartedly embracing the best of the digital age.”
Looking to principles like agile development and user-centric design and forging partnerships between those who know the best practices of government and technology, Cook sees TTS helping create digital-age government that makes a profound difference.
