A former Navy E8 senior chief who accepted bribes from vendors while serving in Afghanistan was sentenced to two years in prison on March 29.
Donald P. Bunch, 46, will also have to forfeit $25,000 and pay a $5,000 fine after pleading guilty to one count of accepting bribes.
From February to August 2009, Bunch was in charge of the Humanitarian Assistance Yard at Bagram Airfield, where he purchased supplies from Afghan vendors for urgent humanitarian relief missions.
Bunch worked with a pre-approved list of vendors, which he said his predecessor told him to rotate. Vendors soon began offering Bunch money to influence which contracts he picked.
DOJ officials said that Bunch had pocketed $25,000 in bribes, which he sent to his wife in greeting cards to pay for the building of a new home.
Bunch struck a plea deal and pleaded guilty to the bribery charge on Sept. 18, 2015.
