The website for the U.S. Census Bureau has a wealth of information on demographics, education, economics, housing and more. But, stretched across more than 1 million pages and a clunky search system, that data can be difficult to access.
The bureau is embarking on a five-year transformation project and has awarded a contract to Accenture Federal Services to improve and streamline the website, including making sure the interface works on any device.
“Census serves a diverse set of stakeholders — from journalists, educators and students to economists, academics and researchers — all with unique needs concerning access to valuable Census data,” said Ed Meehan, senior managing director of Accenture’s U.S. Safety and Citizen Services Portfolio. “This work builds on our redesign of the website that improved navigation and created an engaging experience to better explore website content.”
The new contract includes work on:
- Migrating content into Census’ new content management system;
- Implementing responsive design to enable a seamless user experience for the website on any device — desktop, laptop, tablet or mobile;
- Expanding customer engagement analytics to create dashboards for Census leadership with insight into survey operations and how the public uses Census data; and
- Enhancing Census.gov and Smart Search to provide users with quick and seamless access to the content.
