“We urge Americans to continue to travel, attend public events, and freely associate with others,” Johnson said in a statement. “However, given world events, this is a time for heightened vigilance by federal, state and local governments, critical infrastructure owners and operators, as well as the public. “
The Federal Protective Service — which guards nearly 10,000 federal buildings — will enhance its presence at facilities across the country. The exact locations remain undisclosed for security reasons, according to DHS.
The Transportation Security Administration has begun increasing the number of random searches of passengers and luggage at airports across the country, Johnson said. The agency will also conduct an immediate, short-term review of its security procedures to see if the agency can make any more enhancements.
DHS, the FBI and the National Counterterrorism Center have continued to issue joint intelligence bulletins to state and local law enforcement, apprising them of recent events and threats. The agencies are also providing state and local law enforcement with training concerning incident response, Johnson said.
“The measures described above are precautionary. We have no specific, credible intelligence of an attack of the kind in Paris last week being planned by terrorist organizations in this country,” Johnson said.
