An admitted stoner and hacker who goes by the name “cracka” online and tweets under the handle @phphax has allegedly hacked the personal email account of CIA Director John Brennan.
The hacker reportedly told the New York Post he gained access to Brennan’s personal AOL account on Oct. 12 after tricking Verizon tech support workers into resetting the password.
Shortly after noon, @_CWA_ — Crackas With Attitude’s Twitter handle — sent out a screengrab listing the names, phone numbers, personal email, birthday, Social Security numbers and clearance level of another 20 intelligence officials, including Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson. The Twitter account has since been suspended.
CWA claimed to have also hacked into the personal accounts of White House Deputy National Security Advisor Avril Haines, who formerly served as deputy director of the CIA.
The tweeter said they were not releasing the information for personal reasons but rather in protest for U.S. involvement in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The FBI and Secret Service are leading an investigation into the hackers’ claims, according to CNN.
