The House and Senate have passed a continuing resolution for the federal budget, averting government shutdown until Jan. 19, 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a vote of 66 to 32 the Senate passed the continuing resolution approved by the House earlier this evening, keeping the government funded through Jan. 19, 2018. The Senate has not passed the additional House bill that would have provided for disaster relief funding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The House has passed H.R. 4667, providing appropriations for hurricane, wildfire, and other disaster relief efforts on a vote of 251 to 169.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The House has passed the Continuing Resolution bill on a vote of 231 to 188. The next bill on the floor will determine the status of emergency relief funding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The House Rules Committee has approved the two continuing resolution bills under its consideration with a vote along party lines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Committee Democrats, who opposed the approval, proposed three amendments that would have addressed the needs of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipients, many of whose legal statuses will expire in the coming weeks. Two of the amendments would have brought the DREAM Act to consideration on the House floor, while a third would have prevented funds granted within the CR from being used to deport DACA recipients. All were voted down by Republican members of the committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The House Rules Committee is currently holding a hearing on two bills, the first of which is a Senate amendment to the Department of Homeland Security Blue Campaign Authorization Act of 2017.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis short-term continuing resolution will continue funding through January the 19th, 2018, with certain defense anomalies to help alleviate stress that is put on the Unites States military, our fighting men and women, by this continuing resolution,\u201d said Rep. Pete Sessions, R-Texas. \u201cThis resolution provides funding for community health centers and funds the CHIP program through March 31, 2018.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The second bill, H.R. 4667, would provide supplemental funding for disaster relief for Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria, as well as the 2017 wildfires.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe second bill under consideration, H.R. 4667, provides $81 billion in emergency funding for disaster relief. This emergency funding will continue the efforts in recovery that have been underway not only in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, but across the United States in effected areas along the Gulf.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the spokesperson, House appropriations will initially announce the Continuing Resolution and the provisions within, potentially this morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
