The Department of Homeland Security\u2019s combined responsibilities across natural disasters, physical threats and other dangers to the United States mean that the agency needs to rely more than ever on its relationships with the military, according to Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn today\u2019s world, where threat actors are crowdsourcing chaos, we too must crowdsource our response. This is only possible, though, through deep private, international and public cooperation,\u201d said Nielsen Oct. 9 at the Association of the United States Army\u2019s 2018 annual meeting in Washington.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPartnerships used to be a \u2018nice to have,\u2019 but now they are a lifeline for Americans\u2019 very survival. That is why DHS is deepening its ties across the military. We are coordinating our activities with [the Department of Defense] to better combat emerging threats, secure our borders and respond to natural disasters.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\t
